About The Event

Ipswich Borrow Bags is a new scheme to create fabric shopping bags to help reduce plastic bag use in Ipswich. You’ll be able to borrow a bag from certain shops in town when you forget yours, and bring it back to be reused again. We are aiming to make 250 bags and we need help to do it! The more bags we have the more shops we can work with. We will be making bags from repurposed fabric, old curtains, bedsheets, in fact any fabric you may have spare. How you can help… . Before… +We are after fabric donations, please have a rummage and drop any fabric off to WI HQ  22 Orford St, Ipswich IP1 3NS, any Friends of the Earth Ipswich Meeting or Cake and Revolution WI meeting. We need people to cut out our donated fabric, the more we have cut before the day the better!  We can provide templates and fabric, we’ll have fabric bundles ready to go at WI meetings so please pick some up there.. +We welcome ready made bags too so please feel free to design your own pattern or follow ours www.morsbags.com. Finished bags can be dropped off at meetings or taken to WI HQ. We will add the labels on the day. +Donations, we need to cover costs buying labels, so any spare pennies greatly appreciated. +Can you sew some handles for us before the day too?

On the Day +We need sewists, ironers, people to make us tea and coffee! All welcome +Please bring cakes/savoury for us to share, we’ll provide tea/coffee etc. +If you have a sewing machine please bring it along. +If you could let us know if you are coming it helps us plan. The car park is right next to the hall entrance, so you don’t need to carry the machine far. There will be people on hand to help you too.

Afterwards This will be an ongoing scheme so we will always need bags and hopefully will do more sewing bee’s . Make sure you stay in touch to find out more. Thank you for helping Ipswich reduce its plastic use!
